Your Stay

Once we receive your application we will match you with a host-tutor who we think best suits your needs. We take into account many factors such as type of course and specialised learning needs, level of English, age, education, cultural background and interests.

With Personal English Tutors you need never worry that your host might not be a good match. We will provide you with information about the teacher’s qualifications and experience, family members, the home and its location. If for some reason you are not happy with our first suggestion we will look at other teachers.

  • We match you with your ideal Host-Tutor
  • We take account of all your needs and interests
  • We carefully select the best location for you

On Arrival

From the moment you arrive with your host-tutor you will be made to feel welcomed. You will be provided with your own room, bathroom (if you prefer) and any other special requirements. You also have the option of being met by our representative at the airport who will ensure your safe arrival at your host-tutor’s home.

Accommodation

Your host-tutor will provide you with a home away from home. You will live as a member of the household, with all meals and snacks provided for you. By booking your stay through us you can be assured that you will be staying with a teacher with similar interests and who is committed to ensuring you have a fantastic living and learning experience whilst in their home. You can expect that any other requirements (subject to our booking Terms and Conditions) will be met.

Our teachers live in a variety of areas, ranging from the beautiful English countryside to England’s historic cities. Please let us know what type of experience you would like in your online enquiry. All of our teachers are carefully checked to ensure they offer quality accommodation as well as appropriate and nationally recognised qualifications.

Our teachers’ homes include town houses, country homes and village properties allowing a wide range of choice to suit the needs and preferences of individual students. We have some wonderfully modest and conventional properties, others that are large and spacious, some older properties, cosmopolitan town houses, homes with swimming pools, stables and private gyms. P.E.T. always places emphasis on the provision for our students of a high standard of accommodation as well teaching.

Activities

At P.E.T. part of the experience includes the activities organised with your host-tutor. Not only will you have structured one-to-one learning sessions with your teacher, you will experience invaluable total immersion living day to day life with your host-tutor and taking part in cultural, sporting and any other activities daily. This is a fantastic opportunity to practice your language skills, ask questions and try out the material from your class. You will be matched with your teacher based partly on your interests so that your teacher can help you enjoy your stay and activities. So whether your interest is historical buildings, dinner at an Oxford College, sports or salsa dancing, we will find a teacher for you!

We pride ourselves on matching students with the best teacher and our continued success depends on this.

Examples of some activities include:

  • tennis
  • theatre
  • traditional English pubs
  • concerts
  • swimming
  • historical buildings
  • museums
  • exhibitions

Note: Some activities incur a charge and this is not included in the booking cost

A Typical Schedule

With P.E.T. you will live with your host-tutor family and can expect to take part in family life. Your teacher will discuss your learning requirements with you at the beginning of your stay.

Our teachers use a range of teaching methods and so your experience will be uniquely tailored to your needs. Most of the teaching will be done in the mornings, leaving the afternoons free for homework, visits or relaxing. After dinner, you may enjoy free time for homework, or to spend time with your host-tutor and family which may include cultural or social activities (such as a concert or a visit to an English pub).

You can be assured that in addition to your one to one lessons (15, 20 or 25 hours a week) you will benefit from numerous other opportunities to practice your skills with the English language!

Optional Extras

Our courses include accommodation, all meals and individual one-to-one English language lessons. We cater for all dietary preferences. The price of the course depends on how many hours teaching is selected and optional extras.

Optional extras include:

  • Extra hours of one to one tuition
